INDIA NEARLY 1000 IMMIGRATION FIRMS OPERATING IN MOHALI IN PUNJAB BUT ONLY 69 ARE REGISTERED AND NOW DEPUTY COMMISSIONER WRITTEN LETTER TO SPDT OF POLICE TO GET EACH AND EVERY FIRM ANTECEDENTS VERIFIED BUT FIRMS OWNERS CLAIMED STRING REGISTRATION POLICY HAMPERING THEIR REGISTRATION

Verify immigration firms in Mohali: DC to police

Mohali: To curb the rising immigration fraud cases in Mohali, deputy commissioner Gurpreet Kaur Sapra has written a letter to senior superintendent of police (SSP) Kuldeep Singh Chahal to get antecedents of the companies verified.

The DC said the exercise will identify bogus and unregistered companies, against which police can take legal action. She said, "We have been receiving many complaints about people being duped of lakhs of rupees by immigration companies on the pretext of sending them abroad. All such companies found unregistered will be locked out."

Sources in the Mohali administration said there are over 1,000 immigration companies operating in Mohali, while only 69 are registered with the administration.

Chahal said, "I am not aware of any such letter but if it has been sent we will get the exercise conducted to check the antecedents of immigration companies operating in Mohali. Legal action will be taken against these companies." After the Punjab governor notified the Punjab Prevention of Human Smuggling Act 2012 in January 2013, there has been blatant violation of the Act as no efforts have been made to check the antecedents of immigration companies operating in the district. According to the Act, it is mandatory for any immigration company to get it registered with the administration before starting the operations. The Act was put in place to check and curb immigration firms' illegal and fraudulent activities and malpractices of the persons involved in organizational human smuggling in Punjab.

On the other hand, the immigration consultants claimed that the cumbersome and stringent registration policy has kept them from getting registered.
